Tutorial of the Month - December

Hey guys! I know it's Christmas Eve and I know it's almost January...but my friend just showed me this site and I found this tutorial on it.

As you could imagine, I'm probably about to take off my red holiday nails (Essie's Scarlett O'Hara) in favor of this cute and adorably tacky nail art.
If you celebrate Hanukkah instead of Christmas (I go both ways) do white and blue. For Kwanzaa, go green, black, red...whatever seems appropriate!

Animal Print & Mustard

Hello, lovely people!
Sweater - Target
Top - Old Navy
Skirt - Forever21
Scarf - DIY
Tights - Hue via Nordstrom Rack
Shoes - Thrifted
Ring - Gifted
Bag - Fred Meyer
I didn't realize this when I got dressed this morning, but when I went on Facebook after school, there was a post on Chictopia about this outfit from Flattery. Animal print and mustard ftw! This cardigan is animal print, right? Maybe it's not the traditional leopard, but I like to think it's a giraffe or something.

Sweater - Walmart

I can't believe it's already December! I promise I will get a tutorial up sometime this month. Soonish. In honor of the holiday month (isn't that all December's good for?), here are some of my favorite holiday songs. The Glee versions, of course. ;)
Also, I got my license last friday! Nevermind that I turn 18 in two months and I could have gotten it when I turned 16...

Can't Stop, Won't Stop

Hey guys! I know it's been forever and a day since I've posted an outfit, but I like to blame it on the rain and the fact that it gets dark at 5pm.
I actually thought about not blogging anymore, because I was getting tired of feeling guilty for wearing a sweatshirt and slippers every day. I just wanted to dress however I felt like and not have people expecting anything of me. But then I realized how hard it was for me to start this, and how much it would suck to have to start it up again. And I thought about how awesome you feel when you get a comment from a stranger complimenting your clothes. And I came to the conclusion that the reason I started doing this was because I didn't want to wear a sweatshirt and slippers everyday, and that I was going to stick around. So I decided to get dressed.

Top - Mom's
Sweater (underneath) - Forever21
Skirt - TJMaxx
Leggings - Hue via Nordstrom Rack
Booties - TJMaxx

Why did you start blogging? And how do you keep the passion alive? Hehe..
Also...
Is this considered color blocking? I never really got that concept.

Tutorial of the Month - November

Hey guys! So last month, I cut off all my hair. I wasn't planning for it to be as short as it is, (diy gone wrong...whoops!). I don't know if you'll want to take hair cutting advice from me because of that mistake, but in case you do, here's a tutorial that I use to guide me when I cut my hair.

What she does:
  1. Get hair wet
  2. Separate into three sections horizontally
  3. Cut each layer mimicking a razor
  4. Touch up using an actual shaving type razor
What I do:
  1.  Dry or wet...depends on my mood
  2.  Separate into three sections horizontally
  3. Cut straight across
  4. Layer--cutting mimicking a razor OR with the scissors facing up
  5. Not use the same tool on my armpits and my head
Like JayJay, I have had many bad experiences with hair ladies. So I started cutting my hair a few years ago. Plus I'm cheap and I like to be in control. But I was so tired of going to cheap hair ladies because I don't have money, and having them do a horrible job. I have such painful memories from my childhood of coming home from the hair lady's and having hair that was too short, layered weirdly, weird color that immediately washes out...etc. But mostly the complaint was that it was too short, which is ironic because I accidentally chopped off my hair last time.

Anyways,
The reason I always go back to this tutorial is because it shows you how to cut layers without making them look so choppy or not noticable. I think it's a good place to start when you're trying to give yourself layers for the first time.
Having said that, I don't follow these instructions to a tee. I have before, but when you do something over time, you start to realize what works for you and what doesn't. For example, I find that sliding your scissors down the length of your hair helps the edges look more gradual, as opposed to how it looks when you just cut it straight across. (I think the pros use razors or thinning shears for that?) However, I don't slide the razor I use to shave my legs with down my hair. This causes little tiny hairs to be shorter than they should be, and those short hairs don't get cut when you get a haircut because they're up by your eyeballs. This promotes breakage and split ends, and can make your hair appear (or actually be) thinner. And that is something I spend my days trying to avoid.
That's just my opinion about that. It's kinda like getting your ears pierced at the mall. It won't kill you and could be perfectly fine, but it just seems wrong and I would never do it. Make sense?

Tips:
If you cut your hair while it's wet, it might dry shorter than you thought. Especially if you have curly hair.
Do not cut your hair when you're angry or upset. Or drunk. Just like driving, you might do something you regret.
Don't try to take a lot off at once. You can always cut more, but you can never un-cut.

I hope this was helful to some of you. I know it was beyond helpful to me. Congrats JayJayTutorials for being November's TOTM, and happy cutting, friends!

P.S. I'm sorry for neglecting the blog lately. I've been super busy, and trust me, you wouldn't want to see what I've been wearing this past few days anyway.

Back to Lumberjack

Today I was inspired by bloggers wearing flannels or button ups under sweaters with the sleeves rolled over, and I wanted to wear it. It looks a little business-y for school, but that's kind of how I roll.
Flannel - Forever21
Sweater - Walmart
Vest - Aeropostale/DIY
Skirt - TJMaxx
Sweater Tights - Nordstrom Rack
Shoes - Naturalizer via TJMaxx
Belt - Vintage
Bracelet - Target
I don't know why, but my pictures look blurry, grainy, dark, and just not great today. Look at this post, then look at the last one. Now look at your man, then back to me.. I take all my pictures with the same camera, but some of them are worlds apart. My camera has good days and bad days, sadly. You know what they say, you get what you pay for!

When I bought these shoes, I had no idea that paying around $15-$20 for Naturalizers was a good deal, and I almost passed them up. But now, I'm high-fiving myself for buying them. Fun-fact: They were my first pair of heels, and I looked like a baby giraffe trying to walk in them at first. Oh, the memories.

So This is What It Feels Like to Live Life

Hello friends! Something very exciting happened to me the other day. I joined IFB, and I gained my first two followers that aren't my best friend. If you're keeping track, that's a total of four followers. I know blogging isn't about the amount of followers one has, and four isn't very much, but it's always nice to think that someone wants to see what I'm putting out without being obligated to.
I'm so excited! IFB has introduced me to so many friendly and supportive bloggers, and I'm looking forward to talking to people who love what I love and do what I am doing. I am so blessed to have had an opportunity to share my life and my closet with other people.
Hike em up!

"I don't really view it [no makeup] as 'natural', I think that artifice is the new reality. It's more about just being honest and sincere to the core of what you do."

Never Will I Ever...

...Take pictures at night again. The light is horrible. Who knew?

...Or drive at night again. It's really scary!

Sweater - Forever21
Tights - Forever21
Scarf - Fred Meyer
Booties - TJMaxx

I'm not really on good terms with nighttime right now. Along with the driving thing and the picture-taking thing, I just watched Scream (the one with Drew Barrymore) for the first time the other day. It's not a great thing to have to think about when you're home alone.

Anyways.
I really love this outfit, because it's basically different shades of red and tan. I have to congratulate myself when I manage not to put on anything blue. My pet peeve is wearing blue on blue, as in blue jeans and a blue top. I don't know why, but it makes me nuts. Maybe because it reminds me of my other pet peeve...denim on denim. Shudder!
